Homeless Families Have Their Day at the Zoo
PT Marketing Sponsors 2nd Annual Day of Recreation and Learning for the Children
Pittsburgh, PA (May 18, 2011) – On Saturday, May 14th, PT Marketing and the Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN) treated a group of homeless families to a much-deserved day of food, fun, and excitement at the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium. The event was a unique opportunity to teach children about the wonder of the animal kingdom, and motivate them to develop interests and learn about the world around them. It also provided a day of fun for the whole family that otherwise would have been unaffordable to them.
This is the second year that PT Marketing, with the help of donations from Pittsburgh-area businesses and individuals, has provided organizational and logistical support to create and implement the event. The IHN Zoo Day is one of PT’s Community Outreach events, which aim to bring together local businesses for charitable purposes in supporting the local community. PT Marketing also has supported the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, and has held food, book, and clothing drives with the proceeds going to local food banks and shelters.
“A major component of our mission statement is ‘to contribute to the quality of life of people in our communities’,” stated Harvey Pollack, CEO of PT Marketing. “This event is just one example of how our employees are enriching the lives of people in the greater Pittsburgh area.”
Since 1993, IHN, which operates in Crafton, PA (Allegheny County) and Washington, PA (Washington County), has been providing a solid program for homeless families, incorporating overnight lodging using network churches throughout the area. IHN provides shelter, food, and social services to all families in the program.
Laura Vincenti, Executive Director for the IHN said, “Our families came back raving about the day they had! They couldn’t say things nice enough about the PT Marketing folks. You guys did a truly wonderful thing — I’m sure you know that for most of the kids, that was their first-ever trip to the zoo. To provide such a bright spot in the life of a child who can’t help but be burdened by their family situation is such an unselfish act of kindness. Thank you.”
