Social Media for the Financial Industry?

By | February 24, 2014

Historically, the financial services industry has largely stayed away from getting involved in social media for many reasons – fear of losing control of its messaging, inadvertently violating compliance regulations, cost and time to manage, or all. As a result, the use of social media is often blocked, so then typically, when social media is used a less-than-timely message is squeezed through tightly controlled red tape of supervision. This process proves highly ineffective in social media as it loses the “organic” and timely messaging often used within social media marketing.

Today, there are more tools, resources and services available to provide the financial industry with a mechanism to meet compliance regulations while engaging in more timely online conversation with prospects and clients alike!

If and when you do venture into social media marketing you may want to consider many of the free or inexpensive social media monitoring and managing tools or consider working with an agency.  We’ve listed a few of the services that you may find useful.

Hearsay Social:   http://hearsaysocial.com/ – Helping financial services firms grow business on social. The enterprise-ready solution helps distributed financial services teams quickly and easily move beyond yesterday’s relationship building tactics and build business on social. Hearsay boosts productivity while ensuring brand integrity and compliance for even the most regulated industries. Some of the world’s largest financial services and insurance firms rely on it to attract prospects, retain customers, strengthen relationships, and grow business on social.

Hootsuite – https://hootsuite.com/ probably the most comprehensive and cost effective if you have in-house support.  This tool provides a great way to push content out to multiple channels on a regular basis along with the ability to see all comments from all social media channels such as:  Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, WordPress, Foursquare and Google+.

Social Instinct:  http://www.socialinstinct.com/ Social Instinct plugs into social media platforms, quickly ingesting and processing multiple types of user-generated content (UGC). Text posts, images, and video are passed through the platform, where it scores the content as positive or negative. Once processed, the curated content is then pushed to you on a custom dashboard for either promotion or remediation
